ERASMUS+ KA2 digiTEACH
The digiTEACH project aims to combine IT and humanities skills that will come together through the creation of a digital platform to support the teaching of art history for students aged 11 to 16.
The importance of art teaching is definitely recognized at the European level as a vehicle for the development of creative thinking and cultural awareness. On the other hand, computer and digital skills have undergone a major acceleration in education as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic that has forced schools to cope with restrictions with distance learning and online sharing tools.
The platform (Art-Cloud) that will be created through digiTEACH will offer schools in the partner countries (Italy, Spain, France, Belgium, Greece, Turkey) a cloud-based database of very high-resolution images accompanied by art-historical information and tools that will allow teachers and students to create interactive and personalized educational paths.
In fact, at least six museums will be involved (one for each participating state) that will choose a set of artworks to be digitized. The works will be of various kinds (paintings, sculpture, applied art,...) to offer users a gallery reflecting the rich European artistic production in its different facets. The details of these works will thus be discovered and appreciated even by those who cannot physically go to see them in person, and this will help create a sense of cohesion and belonging to European culture, as well as help museums to be known beyond national borders.
Schools in different countries will also be directly involved to get an overview of the use of digital tools to support teaching and thus understand how to design the platform to meet the needs of teachers and pupils. Subsequently, the same will be able to actually take advantage of the platform for their lessons and experience a different teaching than usual, which can further stimulate pupils' participation.
The digiTEACH project thus has relevance both in terms of research in the field and in contributing to innovation in school teaching methods at the European level
