Course Overview: The course focuses on applying the principles of peer education to cultural heritage and art education. Due to the features of the peer methodology, the proposed contents can be adopted - and adapted - according to different learning objectives, making this approach suitable for students of various educational levels. Using a non-formal education approach, the course emphasises collaborative learning, creativity, and leadership, enabling students to teach and learn from one another in an engaging and supportive environment.
MAIN TRAINING PROGRAM
Day 1: Introduction to peer education and cultural heritage
- Ice-breaking exercises and group discussions on participants' current use of peer learning.
- Overview of peer education principles and their applications in cultural and art education.
- Exploring non-formal education methodologies – brainstorming ideas for peer-led activities in cultural heritage education.
Day 2: Designing peer led-activities
- Techniques for creating peer-led activities – the teacher’s role: facilitating group work, collaboration, and leadership in the classroom
- Case study analysis of successful peer-led cultural heritage projects.
- Designing a peer-led cultural heritage activity working in groups to develop and present their activity ideas.
Day 3: Implementing peer education in diverse learning environments
- Adapting peer education methodologies to different student age groups and educational contexts.
- Discussion on overcoming challenges in peer education, such as differing student abilities and group dynamics.
- Workshop on creating inclusive peer education strategies for diverse student groups.
Day 4: Tools and techniques for peer-led learning
- Introduction to digital tools and platforms that support peer education and collaboration in cultural heritage
- Hands-on exploration of online tools for facilitating peer-led activities (e.g., collaborative platforms, digital storytelling).
Day 5: Evaluating and sustaining peer-led cultural heritage projects
- Strategies for evaluating the success of peer-led learning activities – assessing student engagement, collaboration, and learning outcomes.
- Developing an action plan for implementing and sustaining peer-led activities in schools.
- Final reflections and group feedback to wrap up the course.
